Does Portillo’s Take Apple Pay in 2023?
No, Portillo’s Does Not Take Apple Pay in 2023.
We were not able to find any evidence that you can use Apple Pay at Portillo’s.
While it’s possible that some of their locations may have taken additional steps to accept Apple Pay, it’s not listed as a payment option on their website, and we weren’t able to find the Apple Pay logo when looking at Portillo’s listings.
The easiest way to find out if a particular location of a particular business accepts Apple Pay is to look them up on Apple Maps.
Businesses will have custom listings with information like their address, their location, their hours, and it will let you know if they take Apple Pay.
When we browsed a handful of Portfillo’s locations, unfortunately, Apple Pay wasn’t listed as a payment method.
Having said that, sometimes a restaurant will have a tap to pay credit card terminal and Apple Pay will work, even if it isn’t officially supported.
That’s not always the case, though, so if you’re going to a place that doesn’t list Apple Pay as a payment method, then
Sometimes, you’re just in the mood for a quick easy meal, but you want something that’s a step up from the usual fast food, while still being comforting and quick.
That’s where Portillo’s steps in with their menu that includes all sorts of American favorites.
This chain of restaurants has 67 locations, and was founded by Richard J. Portillo.
They are currently owned by Berkshire Partners.
Some of the most popular menu items at Portillo’s are their Chicago-style hotdogs, beef and sausage sandwiches, burgers, fries, soups, salads…
They have a variety of menu items that work great to grab and go.
You can visit a Portillo’s food truck, called their Beef Bus, and you can even hire them to make food for catering your events.
But if you’re just looking for a quick bite of some familiar food, you can’t go wrong with Portillo’s.
But don’t leave home without your purse or your wallet, because they don’t take every payment method out there.
But don’t worry, we’ve done some research so that you’ll know how to pay at Portillo’s the next time you stop by.
Should Portillo’s Take Apple Pay?
Ultimately, it’s up to Portillo’s as a whole, or each location depending on how it’s structured, to decide whether or not they want to accept Apple Pay as one of their payment methods or not.
We are very supportive of stores, restaurants, and other businesses that put the control in the hands of their customers.
Allowing their customers to use Apple Pay may not seem like a huge deal, but it is. Here’s why.
When you pay using Apple Pay, you have a higher level of protection from a number of different types of fraud, plus you’re a lot less likely to lose your card.
If you happen to lose your cell phone after adding payment methods to your Apple Pay, they’ll still remain secure.
If you lose your physical wallet with your physical credit cards in it, you’re out of luck.
A big part of it is the fact that your Apple Wallet application helps to protect your payment information.
In other words, the merchant never receives your credit card number when you’re paying with Apple Pay, and the same applies for your debit card.
This sensitive information is masked and protected.
This means that if there’s ever an employee working somewhere that wants to try to steal people’s payment information, they won’t be able to when you use Apple Pay.
It’s rare for this to happen, but it can happen, and a smart consumer will take steps to protect their data and to protect themselves.
It’s unfortunate when businesses like Portillo’s don’t accept Apple Pay.
There could be a number of reasons that they may specify as to why they don’t accept it.
Sometimes, they’ll have an existing deal with a payment processor that doesn’t support Apple Pay.
Sometimes, a company might be trying to push their own mobile payment app so they’ll reject Apple Pay, which feels like a short-sighted strategy and it’s not ideal for all of their customers who want to pay with Apple Pay.
We’re not sure why Portillo’s doesn’t mention support for Apple Pay on their website, or why it’s not mentioned on their store listings in Apple Maps, but hopefully Portillo’s will adopt wide support for Apple Pay in the future.
Since Portillo’s doesn’t offer franchises for sale, all of their locations are corporate-owned so if they wanted to roll-out Apple Pay across the board, it would be easier to do so than if they were trying to get a bunch of franchisees on board with the upgrade.
Portillo’s Payment Methods
Here’s how you can pay the next time you’re at a Portillo’s location or one of their food trucks.
They accept all of the standard ways to pay, but Apple Pay is frankly becoming more and more of a standard payment method these days, so hopefully it will be included on this list soon.
Portillo’s accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and cash.
If you want to pay for your Portillo’s order using one of the aforementioned payment methods, you’re in luck!
It can be expensive for a chain to upgrade all of their payment terminals if they aren’t able to take modern payment methods, but there are around 60-70 Portillo’s locations, so it doesn’t be as major as a chain that has 100’s or 1000’s of locations to upgrade.
Conclusion
You can’t use Apple Pay at Portillo’s unless something has changed since the publication of this article.
We do our very best to keep on top of any changes or updates, so if you’re ever able to use Apple Pay at a Portillo’s location near you, don’t hesitate to let us know.
We’ll keep checking in case Portillo’s Apple Pay support gets listed in Apple Maps or on Portillo’s website, otherwise it’s safe to assume they haven’t started accepting it yet.
