Does Wingstop Take Apple Pay in 2023?
No, Wingstop Does Not Take Apple Pay in 2023.
Wingstop has publicly stated on their Twitter account that they do not accept Apple Pay if you’re ordering via their website or using their app.
It’s possible that you may be able to pay with Apple Pay in-store, as their tweet goes on to explain, but they can’t give a definitive answer across the board because it can vary from location to location.
They sent a follow-up tweet that said “Since we have locations internationally and payment options may vary from location to location, you may want to call the store directly. Store info can be found on our website”.
If your local Wingstop has payment terminals that accept Tap Pay/contactless payments, then it should work with Apple Pay, unless they have taken additional steps to disable it.
There are still some businesses that are holding out and refusing to accept Apple Pay, even after all these years, but they’re becoming more and more rare.
Not accepting Apple Pay or other digital wallets makes it harder for customers to protect their privacy, but we’re unsure why any large chains like Wingstop would avoid accepting Apple Pay, it just doesn’t really make sense and it’s unfriendly towards their customers who want to pay with Apple Pay.
There’s just something great about meeting up with some friends and chowing down on chicken wings with a few drinks.
A lot of restaurants serve wings, but there’s only a few national chains that specialize in them.
Wingstop restaurants look like they’re right out of the ‘30s or ‘40s with their nostalgic aviation theme, but they were actually founded relatively recently in 1994.
Wingstop Restaurants were founded in Garland, Texas and they have grown to around 900 locations with a yearly revenue of over 70 million dollars.
When you’re in the mood for wings, this is a good option!
Did you know that Wingstop is owned by the same brand that owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, and more?
Wingstop is also a publicly traded company with their headquarters in Addison, Texas which is just a stone’s throw away from where they were founded.
If you’re in the mood for wings, it’s a good idea to make sure that the restaurant will accept your preferred payment methods, because nobody wants to get stuck with the bill only to realize they aren’t able to pay for it due to the restaurant not accepting certain payment methods.
Should Wingstop Accept Apple Pay?
Yes, Wingstop should absolutely take the necessary steps to start accepting Apple Pay at all of their locations, regardless of where they are located.
Accepting Apple Pay (along with Google Pay, Samsung Pay, etc, and not just their own branded apps) shows that a restaurant or store is mindful of what their customers want.
Many, many people have Apple devices and more and more of them are finally opening up their Apple Wallets to start using this game-changing technology to pay.
Sometimes, when stores resist taking Apple Pay, it’s probably because they want to encourage people to use their own payment apps instead, since that gives them more access to your phone, to your data, and whatever other permissions their app may require.
In this case, Wingstop doesn’t accept Apple Pay from their own app, either, so it’s not a matter of them trying to push Apple Pay users into their app – they just don’t want your money if you use Apple Pay, full stop.
It’s unfortunate because Apple Pay offers such a great way for consumers to protect themselves from all sorts of payment fraud and issues that can arise.
We always encourage more places to accept Apple Pay because of the benefits to security, not to mention convenience for Apple users.
Wingstop should reconsider, and should roll-out Apple Pay support (and support for all similar payment types) across the board if they want to empower their customers to protect their payment data, and to have the freedom to pay how they want.
Other Ways to Pay at Wingstop
So, you want some Wingstop, and you can’t use Apple Pay… what’s your next best option?
You could go to a different restaurant, or you could use one of the following payment methods that Wingstop does accept.
Wingstop accepts orders via their website and their mobile app.
You can pay for your Wingstop orders using cash, debit, creditcards, or Wingstop gift cards.
Some of the other brands owned by the same company as Wingstop do accept Apple Pay, so it’s unfortunate that Wingstop would be the odd one out.
Hopefully, they’ll consider expanding their payment methods at some point, so that customers don’t have to call from store to store in hopes of finding one that may have decided to enable Apple Pay payments.
Conclusion
You might be able to use Apple Pay at certain Wingstop locations if you’re lucky, but don’t count on it!
Wingstop may decide to offer support for Apple Pay in the future, if they hear from enough customers that want to use it.
Until then, you’ll just have to use a less-secure payment method or eat something else.
